What specific problem are you solving?
We are solving the fundamental problem that half the world’s population lack a formal physical address due to the absence of structured building numbers and road names. This absence affects over 440 million people in Africa and hinders access to essential services. Not knowing where people live directly impacts businesses and governments trying to put in effective anti-money laundering (AML) and Know-your-customer (KYC) regulations. . For businesses, particularly financial institutions in Nigeria, the inability to collect verified addresses increases operational costs for compliance and reduces revenue. This lack of effective addressing also directly impedes financial inclusion and delays critical emergency services, such as ambulance access. The MIT Emerging World Blog report emphasizes, this issue carries a substantial economic burden. Poor addressing costs India an estimated $10–14 billion annually, representing approximately 0.5% of its GDP.
What is your solution?
OkHi is a digital addressing system that enables people to verify where they live in regions without formal address infrastructure.
Our solution includes three core products: a mobile SDK for businesses to collect and verify customer addresses, a Dashboard to manage addresses and download proof of address certificates, and okhi.me, a web app for consumers to manage their address book and privacy settings.
At the heart of our system is digital address verification. Once a user creates an address, our AI-native engine analyzes their smartphone’s location patterns—using behavioral science and geofencing—to determine how much time they spend at that location, and verifies the address accordingly.
Data privacy is central to our design. Our approach is grounded in three principles: compliance with regulations like Nigeria’s NDPR; minimal data capture, collecting location data only when the user is at their address; and user control, including opt-in verification and the ability to manage or revoke location permissions at any time.
Our system provides a scalable, privacy-first alternative to in-person address verification, making it possible for millions to access essential services.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
We primarily serve customers of banks and fintechs in emerging markets that struggle with verifying addresses for compliance (AML/KYC), fraud reduction, and effective lending. Traditional manual methods like physical agents and utility bills are expensive, inaccurate, and unscalable. Our behavioral AI-powered solution offers a superior alternative. For example, Standard Bank experienced 29% higher accuracy, 4x faster speed, and 10x lower costs. Kuda Bank achieved 85% address verification in 2 days, enhancing compliance. V Bank's NPS increased to 9.2 after simplifying onboarding. Financial institutions also benefit from reduced fines and chargebacks. Leveraging GPS means our solution works even for informal consumers who would have no way to previously be compliant to access services.
Our mission is to put one billion people on the map, fostering greater financial and identity inclusion and making lives more connected and secure. Our solution provides a digital, verified address via smartphones, enabling them to open bank accounts, access credit, and receive deliveries or emergency services.
