What specific problem are you solving?
Despite significant progress in expanding education access, millions of children across Nigeria and Africa still face systemic barriers to quality learning. In Nigeria alone, over 20 million children are out of school, the highest number globally, while many in school lack foundational literacy, digital access, and inclusive learning tools. Across Africa, more than 98 million children are not in school, and for those enrolled, language mismatches between instruction and home languages hinder learning outcomes. Globally, 250 million children lack access to formal education, while others struggle with poor infrastructure, undertrained teachers, or inaccessible content. These gaps are most severe in rural communities, among displaced populations, and for children with disabilities. In Africa, only 22% of schools have access to the internet, and fewer than 50% have disability-adapted infrastructure. The lack of culturally relevant, multilingual resources leaves millions unable to fully participate in education systems. We are tackling these interconnected challenges by removing language barriers, expanding inclusive digital access, and offering multilingual AI assistive tools for personalized learning. Our work directly addresses the root causes of educational exclusion in Africa, such as language, infrastructure, disability, and digital inequality—with scalable, AI-powered tools built for the realities of underserved communities.
What is your solution?
Indigenius is a suite of multilingual, AI-powered education tools designed to make learning accessible, inclusive, and culturally contextual for all. It includes four innovative features that work together to support students, teachers, and lifelong learners in underserved communities. The Indigenius Conversational Voice AI & Generative Chatbot is a digital tutor. Learners can ask questions and receive instant support in their preferred language. It provides academic help, career advice, and digital skills, using human-like interactions through voice and text. Additionally, the Indigenius Hardware Keyboard provides typing support in 180 African languages. It has built-in speech-to-text features and supports learners with disabilities, enabling voice input and AI-assisted learning. Also, we have the Indigenius AI Hubs, which are physical learning centers that offer internet, computers, and digital training programs powered by our AI tools. These hubs serve schools and communities with limited access to technology. Finally, the Indigenius Agent Pro platform helps tutors, researchers, Ed-tech organizations, create intelligent AI learning assistants that provide accurate and contextual personalized content. Our multilingual AI tools are trained on 3.5 billion parameters of data, optimized for low-bandwidth environments and powered by advanced AI technologies such as Automatic Speech Recognition(ASR), Text to Speech(TTS), and Retrieval Augmented Generation(RAG).
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution directly serves children, youths, and educators in under-resourced communities across Nigeria and Africa, particularly in rural areas, conflict-affected zones, and marginalized populations, including learners with disabilities. In Nigeria, over 20 million children are out of school, with millions more struggling in classrooms due to language barriers, lack of infrastructure, and limited access to inclusive learning tools. In rural communities, schools often lack internet, qualified teachers, and learning materials. Students are taught in colonial languages, making it hard to grasp concepts. Those with disabilities face additional challenges, as most schools lack assistive technologies or accessible content. We also support young adults who have missed formal schooling and need digital skills to access employment opportunities. Female learners are especially vulnerable to being left behind due to gender norms and limited access to safe learning environments. Indigenius addresses these gaps, meeting people where they are, with tools built for their realities, enabling lifelong learning for those too often excluded.
