What specific problem are you solving?
Even before COVID-19, 258 million children were out of school (OOS). Today, that number remains tragically high – 250 million children still lack access to education (UNESCO, 2025). In Sub-Saharan Africa 1 in 5 children is OOS. In Ghana, despite government efforts, over 585,000 primary school-aged children remain excluded. The crisis goes deeper than access. A staggering 92% of children in low-income countries cannot read by age 10, signaling that even when children are in school, they are not learning (World Bank, 2019). At the heart of this learning crisis is poor-quality instruction (Gove & Cvelich, 2011). Without urgent action to improve teaching, millions of children will continue to miss out on critical foundational skills. Since 2016, Luminos has partnered with community-based organizations and the government to scale our accelerated learning program, reaching 377,407 OOS children. To ensure teaching quality, Luminos provides ongoing support to teachers through regular classroom observations and feedback from coaches. Yet, many coaches often lack experience or have limited access to real-time data and monitoring tools, limiting their impact. Luminos has a proven solution. Luminos CoachSight, an AI-powered, smart coaching system equips coaches with real-time, data-driven insights to strengthen instruction and improve student outcomes.
What is your solution?
Luminos CoachSight is an AI-powered, dynamic coaching system that transforms how we support teachers and improve learning outcomes, particularly in the most marginalized and vulnerable communities. At its core, our solution addresses the challenge of low-quality instruction by leveraging AI to enable coaches to deliver consistent, targeted, and impactful feedback. With Luminos CoachSight, coaches can input data from classroom observations through an offline-enabled mobile app. Our solution integrates large language models into the data platform, to generate bite-sized, classroom-specific insights. By analyzing large volumes of historical classroom observations, Luminos CoachSight identifies trends and pinpoints the highest-impact areas for teachers to improve. Coaches receive actionable, historical insights before entering the classroom, which helps streamline post-observation feedback and guidance. This enables targeted, responsive support for every teacher, ultimately leading to better instruction and improved learning outcomes for every child.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Luminos provides transformative catch-up education programs for out-of-school children who have been denied the opportunity to receive quality education. We target the most marginalized out-of-school children – low-income, internally displaced, and refugee children – in some of the hardest-to-reach communities. Poor quality instruction is a key contributor to the global learning crisis, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Improving instruction is essential to ensuring every child learns. Coaches often face challenges providing high-quality feedback to teachers due to inexperience, limited tools, and unreliable data. Luminos CoachSight directly addresses this challenge and is designed to support coaches and teachers to strengthen instruction in low-resourced settings. Our solution delivers real-time, data-driven classroom insights, enabling coaches to support teachers more effectively. With offline-enabled data collection and support, it lowers barriers for coaches particularly in low-resource or low-connectivity communities. As a result, teachers receive more consistent, actionable feedback – strengthening instruction and learning outcomes for children.
