What specific problem are you solving?
KatexPower is addressing energy poverty in off-grid and underserved communities by providing clean, affordable, and sustainable solar energy solutions. In Nigeria, over 85 million people (43% of the population) lack access to electricity, forcing households and small businesses to rely on kerosene lamps, candles, and diesel generators, which are expensive, harmful to health, and contribute to carbon emissions. Globally, about 775 million people live without electricity, limiting economic opportunities, education, and healthcare access. The problem is exacerbated by high costs of grid expansion, inadequate infrastructure, and energy inequality, disproportionately affecting rural communities and women-led households. Many families spend up to 30% of their income on inefficient energy sources, keeping them in a cycle of poverty.
What is your solution?
Energy Access for All by KatexPower is a plug-and-play solar energy solution designed to provide clean, reliable, and affordable electricity to off-grid and underserved communities. Our solution includes solar home systems (SHS) and portable solar lanterns that are easy to install, require minimal maintenance, and operate without the need for grid connectivity. We leverage high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) modules, lithium-ion battery storage, and smart energy management technology to ensure continuous power supply. Our systems can power essential household appliances, lighting, mobile charging, and small businesses, improving livelihoods and productivity. Through pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) financing, users can access solar energy at an affordable cost, reducing their dependence on expensive and polluting alternatives like kerosene and diesel. Our solution is scalable, modular, and designed for rapid deployment, allowing communities to transition to sustainable energy with minimal infrastructure investment. By empowering local youth and women as solar entrepreneurs, we create jobs and enhance economic opportunities while addressing climate change. For more details, visit: https://youtu.be/hLPgqJGl3Rw
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
KatexPower’s "Energy Access for All" solution serves off-grid and underserved communities, particularly low-income households, small businesses, schools, and healthcare centers in Nigeria. Our primary beneficiaries include rural families, women-led households, and micro-entrepreneurs who currently rely on expensive, unreliable, and harmful energy sources such as kerosene lamps, candles, and diesel generators. These communities face limited access to electricity, which restricts economic opportunities, hinders education, and affects healthcare services. Children struggle to study at night, businesses suffer from irregular power supply, and healthcare centers operate with inadequate lighting and refrigeration for essential medicines. Many families spend up to 30% of their income on inefficient energy sources, keeping them in poverty. Our solar home systems and portable lanterns provide clean, affordable, and reliable electricity, reducing energy costs by up to 70%, improving indoor air quality, and enabling economic productivity. Through our pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) model, beneficiaries can access solar energy with flexible, low-cost payments. Additionally, by training women and youth as solar entrepreneurs, we create jobs and empower local communities. By replacing polluting energy sources with renewables, our solution enhances education, income generation, health, and climate resilience, contributing to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
