What specific problem are you solving?
According to the National Bureau of Statistics over 73% of households in Nigeria rely on solid fuels like firewood and charcoal for cooking, contributing to severe indoor air pollution.
On the other hand, Statistics from the World Health Organization revealed that over 98,000 Nigerian women die annually from smokes inhaled while cooking with firewood. Which is now the 3rd highest killer after Malaria and HIV? And Kerosene usage is the leading cause of Lung Cancer and Leukemia globally.
Our Mothers must NOT Continue to sacrifice their lives just because they want to cook the food we are going to eat. NO WAY!
PROBLEM YOU ARE TRYING TO SOLVE
1. IN-DOOR AIR POLLUTION
Toxic smoke from traditional cooking fuels causes respiratory diseases and contributes to over 4 million deaths annually worldwide.
2. ENERGY POVERTY
Millions of households lack access to affordable and reliable energy sources, hindering education, livelihoods, and quality of life.
3. CLIMATE CHANGE
Burning fossil fuels and deforestation for energy release greenhouse gases, accelerating global warming and its devastating effects.
4. ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION
Unsustainable energy practices lead to deforestation, soil erosion, and loss of biodiversity, harming ecosystems and livelihoods.
What is your solution?
At SMOKELESS BRIQS ENERGY Solutions, we have developed clean energy technologies to solve three major problems: Energy Poverty, In-door air pollution and Climate Change in under-served communities in Nigeria.
We produce eco-friendly smokeless briquettes, made from post-agricultural waste. Our briquettes are made from 100% agricultural waste mostly: Coconut husks, Palm kernel shells, Corn cobs and Rice husks. We selected these agricultural wastes because they have Higher Calorific Value and Low Moisture & Ash Content making them burn longer and hotter. They also burn cleaner than ordinary charcoal with minimal smokes, helping to reduce deforestation and indoor air pollution.
And our game-changing eco-friendly smokeless stoves, built from locally sourced recycled metals, feature a stainless steel burn chamber that heats up to 200 degrees in less than 10 minutes, allowing for twice as fast cooking compared to traditional stoves. These stoves integrate IoT technology to track carbon offset and earn carbon credits, further enhancing their environmental impact. Additionally, we have also integrated our proprietary T.E.G Technology which converts heat from the stove into approximately 30 watts of electricity, providing essential power for mobile charging and lighting which is crucial for communities with limited access to electricity.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Smokeless Briqs serves low-income households, small food vendors, and off-grid communities that rely on firewood and charcoal for cooking. These groups, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas, face high fuel costs, indoor air pollution, and environmental degradation due to reliance on unsustainable energy sources. Women and children are the most affected, spending long hours exposed to toxic cooking fumes, leading to respiratory diseases and other health risks.
Our solution provides affordable, smokeless briquettes made from agricultural waste, along with high-efficiency smokeless stoves that burn cleaner, reducing fuel consumption. Additionally, our stoves are embedded with Thermoelectric Generators (TEG) that convert heat into electricity, allowing users to charge mobile phones and power small LED lights, improving energy access in off-grid areas.
Through IoT-enabled monitoring, we track stove and briquette usage, measure carbon savings, and optimize distribution. This solution not only reduces deforestation and carbon emissions but also improves health, lowers fuel costs, and creates sustainable income opportunities for smallholder farmers by upcycling agricultural waste. By promoting clean energy adoption and climate resilience, Smokeless Briqs transforms lives and supports a sustainable future.
