What specific problem are you solving?
Sun-Ice Energy is addressing the challenges of powering portable accommodation units in remote locations where the grid is inaccessible. Traditional options—diesel generators and large batteries—come with high costs for purchase, transport, maintenance, and fuel. Diesel generators create noise, CO₂ emissions, and require constant refueling, while batteries have recycling concerns and flammability risks. Additionally, both solutions struggle with maintaining optimal temperature and humidity levels in extreme conditions. Sun-Ice Energy aims to provide an efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable alternative that eliminates the reliance on fossil fuels, eliminate emissions, and ensures reliable climate control in remote environments.
What is your solution?
Our thermal storage solution leverages Phase Change Material (PCM) technology powered by solar energy to provide efficient and sustainable climate control for off grid accommodation. In the middle east the system generates around 100 kWh of energy per day while only consuming 20 kWh, creating a net positive energy outcome. The technology enables cooling to last at least one to two day without sunlight, offering reliability in remote extreme locations. By eliminating diesel generators, the solution eliminates greenhouse gas emissions and operational costs. The PCM used is non-toxic, recyclable, and has a 50-year lifespan. Additionally, the technology is 20 times cheaper than lithium batteries over its lifespan, with an associated ROI of under three years. Integrated humidity management enhances indoor air quality by controlling excess moisture. With minimal maintenance and extended durability, our solution provides a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and highly efficient alternative to traditional systems.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our goal is to improve the lives of individuals and organizations operating in remote, off-grid locations especially in the sun belt and tropical regions. Potential applications for our solution range from accommodation, medical clinics, class rooms to food or medical storage. Given enough solar power, our solution can cool the environment anywhere from 26.6°F (food storage) all the way up to ambient, without the need of diesel generator or large batteries to power essential infrastructure. We eliminate issues like fuel logistics, CO₂ emissions, noise pollution, grid pressure, and unreliable climate control. Currently, these groups are underserved due to the high costs, environmental impact and inefficiencies of traditional energy solutions. Sun-Ice Energy’s solution addresses these needs by providing an off-grid, solar-powered climate control system that efficiently stores and releases thermal energy. This eliminates reliance on diesel, lowers operational costs, eliminates emissions, and ensures consistent temperature and humidity regulation. With a long lifespan and low maintenance, this technology enables greater energy independence, improving working and living conditions while promoting sustainability.
