What specific problem are you solving?
Malnutrition not only affects the weight and height of children, but also robs their potential to become productive members of society. In Honduras, 1 in 4 children suffers from malnutrition, a condition that deeply impacts physical, cognitive, and emotional development. Globally, more than 45 million children under 5 years old suffer from acute malnutrition, representing a global health crisis. The main factors contributing to this issue are poverty, the lack of nutrition skill strengthening, and limited access to adequate healthcare services. In many cases, the detection of nutritional deficiencies is made too late, further aggravating the condition of affected children. Without early nutritional evaluation, these problems persist, affecting not only individual health but also the economic and social development of communities. Our solution aims to address these factors by providing early detection, strengthening nutrition skills, and accessible care for families in vulnerable communities.
What is your solution?
We evaluate, diagnose, and provide nutritional follow-up to the children benefiting from our community projects. We address this issue comprehensively by offering rapid malnutrition diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and holistic support for parents. We implement training workshops using our educational manuals, empowering families with the necessary knowledge to improve nutrition at home. Additionally, we apply a clinical test that detects vitamin deficiencies in pediatric patients. This test, developed with advanced technology, provides immediate feedback and supports early detection, enabling timely interventions. By combining clinical diagnosis, family empowerment, and ongoing support, our solution ensures sustainable improvements in the nutritional health of children.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution targets rural and peri-urban communities, primarily single mothers with children from low-income backgrounds. These areas, often neglected by nutritional interventions, have been underserved in terms of access to health services and nutritional education. Currently, a percentage of children receive nutritional or medical evaluations, but many families lack knowledge about nutrition and don't know how to properly feed their children. To date, we have absorbed approximately 458,333 USD (11 million lempiras) in nutritional expenses. With the implementation of TENIDV, we expect to reduce nearly 23,200,000 USD (580 million lempiras) annually in costs related to biochemical tests. This will not only result in significant savings for families but will also provide easier and faster access to quality nutritional diagnostics. Our comprehensive approach not only improves the health of children but also empowers families through educational workshops and nutritional follow-up. In this way, we aim to transform the lives of hundreds of children and families, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to improve their health and well-being in the long term.
