What specific problem are you solving?
Every second matters in public health, a lesson I internalized while leading teams during the 2014 Ebola crisis and the 2020 COVID-19 task force. As an African and Nigerian, I’ve seen how delayed, fragmented responses worsen outcomes, increasing illness, death, and overwhelming health systems in low- and middle-income countries. Ebola infected over 28,000 people globally, causing more than 11,000 deaths. COVID-19 affected millions, straining healthcare systems and economies worldwide.
In Africa and similar resource-limited regions, communities face major barriers, especially inadequate surveillance systems and predictive analytics. Fragmented data, delayed threat detection, and reactive approaches make things worse. Driven by a passion to introduce tailored, advanced technologies, I created EpiDetect AI. It uses real-time data analytics, machine learning, and predictive modeling to detect health threats early.
EpiDetectAI delivers timely, actionable alerts via intuitive dashboards, allowing healthcare workers to respond proactively mobilizing resources, protecting vulnerable populations, and mitigating outbreaks before they escalate. This shift from reactive to proactive disease management builds community resilience and saves lives.
What is your solution?
EpiDetect AI is an AI-powered public health surveillance platform that enables real-time epidemic detection and prediction of infectious disease outbreaks. Designed for resource-limited regions, it uses advanced machine learning models, including Random Forest, XGBoost, LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), and anomaly detection algorithms to identify early warning signs.
The platform ingests diverse data streams: electronic health records, lab results, weather and climate data (via APIs), social media trends using health-related keywords, and data from other health systems. Natural language processing (NLP) and large language models (LLMs) extract insights from unstructured data sources, enabling faster, smarter health threat detection.
EpiDetect AI delivers real-time, actionable alerts through a fast, responsive Progressive Web App (PWA) built with TypeScript, JavaScript, ReactJS, and Vite.js. The intuitive dashboard empowers healthcare professionals to act proactively—mobilizing resources, mitigating risk, and protecting vulnerable populations.
EpiDetectGPT, powered by GPT-4o, is integrated within the platform to allow users to query their health surveillance data using natural language. Deployed on an on-premise cloud, it ensures data security and compliance—it does not ingest or retain any personally identifiable information (PII).

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution, EpiDetectAI, serves the communities and public health professionals I’ve worked alongside for over 16 years—especially those in low- and middle-income countries where I began my journey in Nigeria. These are places where delayed data, fragmented systems, and reactive response frameworks have repeatedly turned containable outbreaks into national crises.
I built EpiDetectAI to change that reality. It is designed for frontline epidemiologists, health informaticians, surveillance officers, and health ministries who struggle daily with outdated tools and delayed insights. I’ve been in their shoes—leading outbreak teams during Ebola, supporting immunization systems in fragile settings like Afghanistan, and guiding digital transformation efforts from Africa to the CDC.
This platform empowers them with real-time, AI-driven alerts; seamless data integration; and now, EpiDetectGPT—letting users ask natural language questions of their data within a secure, PII-free environment.
This isn’t just about technology, it’s about saving lives, restoring trust in public systems, and giving health workers the power to act fast, act smart, and protect their people.
