Rural schools in Malawi struggle with severe challenges stemming from a lack of access to technology equipment, infrastructure, and education. In 2024 the Malawi Ministry of Education reported less than 8% of secondary schools offer Information Technology courses. With a total of 880 secondary schools throughout the country this deficiency leaves well over a hundred thousand students unprepared for the demands of the modern workforce, limiting their career opportunities. This lack of access to IT education and engineering skills directly perpetuates cycles of poverty, contributes to economic inequality, and makes it difficult for these communities to achieve sustainable development.

Malawi Tech Solutions is a training and scholarship program providing access to technology equipment, infrastructure and education to students at rural secondary schools. Local instructors teach students basic computer skills, advanced IT skills, and career development. Students gain practical hardware and software skills through direct computer and tech equipment use. Internet access supports learning and research. Mentorship guides IT career exploration, and job readiness training covers resumes, interviews, and problem-solving.

Malawi Tech Solutions serves underprivileged youth and tackles severe poverty in rural schools, where basic resources are scarce and high school fees force dropouts. Female students face added barriers due to lack of feinine hygiene products, causing further absenteeism. The program provides scholarships, tech access, and menstrual hygiene support (Africa Pads), enabling continued education.
