What specific problem are you solving?
Customers are not aware where food is produced and a food journey to reach their table. Our solution bridges these gaps by using a blockchain-based tracking system that follows the entire journey of agricultural produce—from farm to table. The system tracks food miles, creates transparency in the supply chain, and enables geographical identification of products. It allows farmers and producers to tell the story of their products so that customers can make ethical, informed purchasing choices. By building this traceability into local market systems, we not only create consumer trust but also add value to local products through branding, authenticity, and digital traceability. This supports local economies, reduces food system opacity, and facilitates sustainable production and consumption patterns.
What is your solution?
Our solution is the Karesa Tracker, a blockchain traceability platform that would bring trust and transparency to the agri-food supply chain. It would allow small-scale farmers, cooperatives, and producers to digitally track the history of their products—from production to consumption. Each actor will record the data supply chain (farmer, transporter, processor, wholesaler, retailer) inputs simple data about the product as it is passed along. Once the product reaches the marketplace, a QR code is generated which can be scanned by a consumer. https://storycycle.com/karesa/
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution benefits smallholder farmers, cooperatives, local producers, and consumers of rural, marginalized, and underserved communities who find difficult market access, fair pricing, and recognition. This group has minimal influence on how their product is valued and sold. Having no access to digital resources or branding opportunities, they become unseen in the marketplace and are easy prey for being exploited by the intermediaries. Consumers, in turn, are deprived of any credible information concerning the origin, quality, and path of food they buy. This system gives them digital identity and traceable history of product, which makes them more prominent, trustworthy, and valuable in the market. They can access production data, build consumers' trust
