What specific problem are you solving?
I’ve spent the last 10 years advocating at school for my wonderful dyslexic son. I quickly discovered how hard, confusing, and expensive the special education journey is for families. Without investing significant time and money, I wouldn’t have been able to get him the support he needed.
When a child enters special education, it’s just the beginning. Parents face a long, painful learning curve, often without meaningful guidance. Some eventually hire expensive advocates, while most turn to other parents or try to figure it out alone. Stigma and uncertainty often delay action, and precious time is lost. Families are left with a mountain of documentation they don’t fully understand.
Schools don’t have the capacity or incentive to educate parents. Many districts rely on the information gap to limit services. IEPs are private and not shared between families, making it hard to know what’s possible or appropriate. Without expert advocacy, children’s outcomes suffer.
Most families, regardless of income or education, struggle to navigate the system. Those without time, resources, or support face even greater barriers. The result is a system that leaves families in the dark when their children need them most.
What is your solution?
KidvoKit is a personalized IEP toolkit for parents, powered by AI. It helps families of children with disabilities navigate the special education system more easily; saving time, reducing stress, and improving their ability to advocate effectively.
The platform currently includes two foundational tools: a digital IEP binder that automatically organizes special education documents, and an AI-powered assistant that answers questions in plain language, tailored to the user’s state. Together, they give parents clarity and confidence as they prepare for IEP meetings and make informed decisions.
KidvoKit uses large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP) to navigate state-specific special educaiton procedures, identify gaps or changes in services, and offer personalized guidance. It draws on the documents parents already have—like IEPs, evaluations, and school communications—to deliver relevant, actionable insights.
These tools form the foundation of a broader platform we’re building to support families over the full course of their child’s special education journey. KidvoKit brings professional-level support within reach, making it easier for families to understand their options and get their children the services they need.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
There are over 8 million children on IEPs in the U.S., whose families are trying their best to ensure they are successful in school. While there are online IEP tools designed for teachers and specialized curriculum and apps for students, parents are left without digital tools to help them navigate the complex, high-stakes world of IEPs.
These families are underserved because the system is complex and opaque and the technology has not existed to provide individualized solutions required. To understand their rights and support their child, parents often cobble together advice from Facebook groups, blogs, and books, or spend thousands of dollars on private advocates. Many also manually track paperwork and timelines on their own, which requires a huge time commitment from parents to maintain.
The platform not only saves parents time but also embeds best practices used by professional advocates. By giving parents access to expert-level tools, KidvoKit helps more families actively engage in their child’s education and push for the services they need. The ultimate goal is to impact their child's success in school through their advocacy.
