What specific problem are you solving?
Bunyoro, an underdeveloped region in Uganda, faces major educational challenges, including low literacy and numeracy rates, limited digital access, inadequate teacher training especially in ICT, and exclusion of marginalized groups. Rural areas, in particular, lag behind national averages, with Uganda’s literacy rate at 74% and only 57.5% of Primary Three learners achieving numeracy proficiency (Uganda Bureau of Statistics, UNEB 2024). Limited access to electricity (only 26% of households are connected) and outdated or absent digital infrastructure hinder ICT integration in schools (Afrobarometer, Uganda Radio Network). The shortage of trained ICT teachers further limits digital learning (ICT Teachers Uganda). Children with disabilities remain underserved, with only 1.97% enrolled in primary schools despite a projected 16% needing support. Special needs education receives just 0.1% of the national education budget, resulting in inadequate resources and high dropout rates (Auditor General, 2023). Financial constraints also prevent many from continuing education, with secondary school attendance at just 22% (World Bank, AP News).

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Target Population and Impact BRIGS-CDO’s solution aims to improve the lives of underserved learners, teachers, and marginalized groups in Uganda’s Bunyoro region. The primary beneficiaries include: Students in Rural and Low-Income Communities Many lack access to quality education, with literacy rates in rural areas significantly below the national average of 74%. Limited electricity (only 26% of households connected) and digital infrastructure hinder learning opportunities. The solution provides digital learning platforms, mobile applications, and AI-powered tools to enhance literacy and numeracy. Teachers Lacking Digital Skills Many educators lack training in digital learning methods, limiting the effectiveness of technology in classrooms. BRIGS-CDO aims to offer training in adaptive learning, digital content creation, and AI-driven assessment tools to improve teaching capacity. Children with Disabilities and Out-of-School Youth Only 1.97% of students with disabilities are enrolled primary schools, despite an estimated 16% requiring specialized education. The initiative ensures inclusive digital content, assistive technology, and literacy programs for out-of-school learners.
