What specific problem are you solving?
Nearly 1 billion people are still without electric power supply. There are areas and locations where conventional means of power production are not possible: There are no proper roads to transport the large components, there are no cranes or other heavy machinery available. Transporting equipment to remote locations may be impossible or it can be extremely expensive, there may not be any proper harbour available. Even transporting diesel for generating the power is inefficient and becomes too expensive. Small scale energy generating devices may be available but those are unstable and unreliable because of i.e. weather variation. Solar energy is not available at night. All in all it is impossible or extremely expensive to generate energy.
What is your solution?
The Oceo is a generator which converts ocean wave motion into electricity. The generator is not in touch with water but reacts to accelerations of the floating hull. The generator is rotation based and has thus an excellent efficiency ratio of 95 %. The floating Oceo generator is transported to the site by towing and moored by catenary mooring legs. The power cable at seabed connects the generator to shore. In micro-grid solution together with other renewables the Oceo adds stability having the peaks of production at different times. Wave energy is more stable than for example wind or solar.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
The Oceo generator will bring power to people living in small communities in remote locations and Islands with lacking connections. It will add to the quality and stability of power production in areas where energy is generated in small scale by renewables and by diesel generators. In urban communities the Oceo will add to stability of production of renewables, and it will provide energy in lower cost than for example diesel. The Oceo farms can be deployed close to the cities; they do not obstruct the scenery, and they don’t generate noise. The Oceo is designed so that it can be assembled locally and the operations for running the site can be carried out by local people. All this adds local content of power production and is beneficial for the local economy.
