What specific problem are you solving?
Bangladesh is a south asian developing country with a low employment opportunity. In Bangladesh, over 750,000 (Fred Hollow Organization) people live with visual impairments, many of whom are completely blind. These individuals face severe limitations such as low reading & information access with no easy way to read printed Bangla or English text (e.g., books, medicine labels, signs). They face difficulty to navigate roads, public transport, and even buildings as most of those are not designed with accessibility in mind. Everyday tasks like identifying currency, recognizing faces, or locating objects become heavily dependent on others. Vision X directly addresses these issues by integrating Bangla and English OCR, object and face detection, color recognition, note taking and navigation assistance into a single, affordable wearable device. Keeping Bangladeshi context in mind it enables real-time speech output, making information, movement, and interaction possible without reliance on others. Vision X breaks the cost barrier set by international alternatives, empowering the visually impaired community across Bangladesh to lead more independent and dignified lives locally with a starting price of 100 dollars.
What is your solution?
Vision X is an AI-powered assistive goggles that was created to help visually impaired people in Bangladesh by addressing the critical challenges they face in daily life. To provide real-time assistance, Vision X is a lightweight, goggle-based system that combines several technologies into a single, affordable gadget. Vision X uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR), to read printed text in both Bangla and English and translate it into audio using Text-to-Speech (TTS) helping people to access information from books, signs, documents, or medicine labels on their own. The gadget uses advanced object detection to instantly recognize common items, people, and currency (BDT). It provides auditory response about the surroundings by detecting faces, colors, and object types. To improve mobility and lessen dependency on others, Vision X comes with a navigation assistant that helps users navigate both indoor and outdoor safely. The integrated Haal-Khata engine, enables visually impaired people to run small businesses on themselves. With object detection and voice input, it helps keeping track of product names, quantities, unit prices, and total sales. In addition to recording sales and purchases, users can use voice commands to create and modify formatted documents that can be exported as PDFs for printing.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our solution Vision X was developed to empower visually impaired individuals across Bangladesh. From children in blind schools and colleges, to adults who have lost their sight due to illness, injury, or congenital conditions. It also supports driven individuals seeking employment or aiming to start their own businesses. Currently, Vision X is actively assisting two students from a blind school, with a long-term goal of reaching 750,000 visually impaired individuals throughout Bangladesh within the next five years. The project is presently being piloted at the Green Disabled Foundation, an institution in Sylhet where 150 visually impaired students receive education with the aid of audio books and a limited number of tactile resources provided by caregivers and support staff. Through our project, we are currently enhancing the education and daily lives of two students enrolled at the Green Disabled Foundation by leveraging real-time object detection, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and our custom Haal-Khata system. By the end of 2025, our goal is to improve the quality of life for all students at the Green Disabled Foundation and to expand our impact to other organizations supporting the visually impaired across Sylhet, Bangladesh.
