What specific problem are you solving?
Oklahoma is Historically know for having a high incarceration rate of Native American people, and when released without the proper reintegration services our brothers and sisters are left to reoffend, become homeless, or commit suicide. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), at the end of 2022, the imprisonment rate for American Indian or Alaska Native adults in the United States was 1,042 per 100,000 residents aged 18 or older. Which is higher rate than the White or Hispanic communities. With the recidivism rate among Native American individuals was 27.8%. This rate was higher than that of Caucasians (21.6%) and Hispanics (13.5%), but slightly higher than that of African Americans (26.7%).
What is your solution?
Native Wings Like an Eagle, Inc. uniquely addresses the needs of tribal members reintegrating into society who do not return to their reservation, as well as those in service areas where reintegration services are not provided. These individuals often face systemic barriers to support due to jurisdictional limitations or lack of tribal affiliation within their geographic area. Our strategic plan prioritizes assistance for those in "no man's land" and urban centers like Oklahoma City, ensuring equitable reintegration opportunities. At Native wings our "Off the REZ" program with reintegration is much more. It's about ensuring people have what they need physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. It's about connection, belonging, and home so that our brothers and sisters can not only survive but truly thrive. With support in Housing, transportation, clothing, food, hygiene, job searching with resume building and much more.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our target population is to all tribal members throughout the state of Oklahoma that have recently been released from jail or incarceration with reintegration services that are off their designated reservation in the Oklahoma city area or on a different reservation of their own.
