What specific problem are you solving?
According to WHO, 2 billion people suffer from visual impairment globally, and 26.2 million people are visually impaired in Africa, with most of them being unable to read books and interact with their environment independently and conveniently, thereby limiting their access to inclusive education and job opportunities. Also, the National Library of Medicine estimates that over 366 million persons suffer from attention disorders like ADHD and dyslexia, making it more difficult for these victims to enjoy access to read printed books and other published materials conveniently. Vinsighte is currently solving this problem by ensuring millions of visually impaired people and people with ADHD and dyslexia have access to our AI Assistive reading technology, which helps them read and interact with their environment independently and conveniently.
What is your solution?
At Vinsighte, we designed an artificial intelligence mobile app known as Visis, which helps the visually impaired and persons with Dyslexia and ADHD to read and interact with their environment. Visis is an AI mobile assistive reading software application that aids the visually impaired and persons with ADHD and dyslexia in reading printed books and educational materials by making use of Optical Character Recognition technology to scan the text of books and convert these texts to audio output for the user to listen to. Visis, which can be downloaded from the mobile store and installed on the phone of the user, also leverages Dolby Atmos technology to create an immersive 3D experience while reading a book. This helps to improve the experience of persons with Visual impairment ADHD and dyslexia while reading, making them more enthusiastic to read, and enhancing their focus while improving their attention span.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
We have designed Visis for individuals who are often overlooked in the mainstream education systems in Africa such as individuals who are visually impaired and persons living with ADHD and dyslexia. Specifically, children and youths within the ages of 6 to 28 who are students or are looking to attend an educational institution but find it difficult to read books and get access to quality education conveniently. In many parts of Africa, these students with visual or cognitive impairments are underserved, limited by a lack of accessible assistive learning technology. Vinsighte addresses these gaps directly through Visis, an AI-powered mobile software solution that reads printed and digital text aloud using a smartphone camera thereby making it possible for these learners to access books and classroom materials independently and conveniently.
