The Mapbiomas and EcoCiencia analysis reveals that, as of 2020, in the indigenous territories - which represent 62% of the Ecuadorian Amazon basin and conserve 71.5% of the forests in this region - 124,000 hectares of natural vegetation cover (1.66%) have been lost in 36 years.
