What specific problem are you solving?
The Mapbiomas and EcoCiencia analysis reveals that, as of 2020, in the indigenous territories - which represent 62% of the Ecuadorian Amazon basin and conserve 71.5% of the forests in this region - 124,000 hectares of natural vegetation cover (1.66%) have been lost in 36 years. The Deforestation in the Napo region, which has lost 9.24 kha of primary humid forest over the past two decades, and the need to provide sustainable economic alternatives for local communities. Deforestation in the Amazon releases large amounts of stored carbon, increasing CO₂ in the atmosphere and contributing to global warming. It also reduces the forest’s ability to absorb this gas and disrupts the water cycle, affecting humidity and rainfall. Additionally, it leads to biodiversity loss by destroying natural habitats and can degrade the soil, causing erosion and desertification, which impact food and resource production.
What is your solution?
Quntus Aromas Selváticos offers an alternative to the communities where they earn more money collecting leaves from the trees and rhizomes than cutting down trees, so for example by planting 10 ishpink trees they can get $5000 dollars for each pruning for 2 per year that is $10,000 that will give them for each year for the rest of their life. Is a innovative and sustainable solution through the production of high-quality essential oils, obtained via a circular and ethical approach that benefits both biodiversity and local communities. We also offer an alternative to the communities of the dry forests of the Ecuadorian coast, preserving species such as the Bursera graveolens, and taking advantage of the wood from dead trees. We have reforested 85,000 trees in the last 10 years. https://youtu.be/4Hhd-Zca5tI https://youtu.be/Wx3ZffJdFzs
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
It benefits the communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon in the province of Napo, a family that has planted 10 ishpingo trees can earn more than the basic income and have a better quality of life. Currently the population of the Ecuadorian Amazon does not have job opportunities and in this business model they have an alternative to cover their basic needs as well as the communities of Manabi in the community of Sancan. Additionally, we are reducing our carbon footprint and saving the lungs of the world.
