What specific problem are you solving?
The problem we are addressing is the lack of efficient and accessible antenatal care in underserved communities, leading to high maternal and infant mortality rates. Globally, about 295,000 women die each year during pregnancy or childbirth, with 94% of these deaths occurring in low- and middle-income countries. In sub-Saharan Africa, the maternal mortality ratio is 534 deaths per 100,000 live births. Key factors contributing to this issue include limited access to healthcare, inadequate patient monitoring, poor data management, and cultural and financial barriers. Many rural areas lack proper healthcare infrastructure, and manual systems hinder effective monitoring of pregnancies, making it difficult to identify high-risk cases. Our solution is a mobile-enabled Health Management Information System (HMIS) that improves data management, facilitates regular monitoring, and increases access to antenatal care, especially in remote areas. By streamlining patient care and improving coordination, the system aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and enhance overall pregnancy outcomes in low-resource settings.
What is your solution?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PV1E0q3qqs To meet diverse needs, we offer both web-based and on-premise versions of the Health Management Information System (HMIS). Web-Based Solution: Hosted on the cloud, accessible via any internet-enabled device (desktop, tablet, smartphone). Provides centralized data access, real-time updates, remote monitoring, and secure data sharing. Healthcare providers can enter, update, or review patient data through a user-friendly web interface. Uses cloud computing, web technologies (HTML, CSS, React), and secure encryption for patient privacy. On-Premise Solution: Installed on local servers, ideal for areas with no or limited internet. Offers local data storage, operates offline, and syncs with the cloud when online. Customizable to suit facility needs, with local databases, encryption, and backup systems for data integrity. Key Benefits: The web-based version is suitable for multi-location networks needing real-time data access and remote monitoring. The on-premise version ensures continuous operation in areas with unreliable internet. Both options ensure flexibility, enabling improved antenatal care management in various healthcare settings, from rural clinics to larger networks.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
The target population for this solution is pregnant women in low-income urban and rural areas, often underserved due to limited access to healthcare, inadequate infrastructure, and cultural or financial barriers. In urban slums, overcrowded clinics and long wait times hinder access, while rural areas lack healthcare centers, and transportation challenges prevent women from seeking care. These women also face lower awareness of maternal health, increasing the risk of complications. Key issues include limited healthcare access, inadequate monitoring due to reliance on paper records, financial barriers, and lack of education about the importance of antenatal care. Our solution addresses these by offering mobile and web-based systems for real-time monitoring, improved data management, and remote tracking of pregnancies. It enables healthcare workers to monitor health metrics, schedule checkups, send reminders, and remotely assess risks. This affordable solution is scalable and works in areas with or without internet access. It also provides patient education, empowering women to make informed health decisions. The result is improved care coordination, reduced maternal and infant mortality, and better pregnancy outcomes in underserved communities.
