SHIELD - Preventing outbreaks
Dhaka City, one of the densest cities in the world with a population of 19 million people suffers from a mosquito problem - There are mosquitoes everywhere!
Current efforts to solve this problem have failed. Mosquitoes in Dhaka are highly resistant to insecticides and logistical problems in the implementation of uncoordinated ‘fogging’ campaigns have not made any difference.
The solution to this problem is an Artificial Intelligence system that is capable of tracking data collected from fieldworkers to predict and selectively target areas that are at high risk of outbreaks. This system coupled with an effective program involving trained volunteers from the public will help to combat the problem not only through insecticides but also non-chemical preventive methods as well.
This program will directly prevent vector transmitted diseases (mosquito borne) which will not only save lives but also decrease average household health-related expenses.
