What specific problem are you solving?
Bangladesh faces dire lack of access to healthcare with low Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Index (52%). 6.1 million people are pushed into poverty due to out-of-pocket health expenditures (74%). This intersection of health & poverty, coupled with limited access to quality primary healthcare, fragmented health systems with lacking health records & acute shortage of qualified providers (only 9.9 per 10,000 people, below global median of 48.6) & inadequate emphasis on preventive management, exacerbate poor health outcomes contributing to overburdened higher-tier healthcare facilities. Inadequate attention to preventive care contributes to preventable yet high maternal mortality (136 per 100,000-live births) & infant mortality (24 per 1,000-live births) rates. The growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)—diabetes (12.5%) & hypertension (28%)—accounts for 67% of all deaths. These often remain undetected until complications arise, especially among working-age adults, leading to reduced productivity, premature death & deepening economic vulnerability. Community Health Workers (CHWs), despite being the first point of contact for millions, remain under-supported—lacking diagnostic tools, structured triage systems & proper training. Single-focus interventions through CHWs fail to address diverse household health needs, exposing the limitations of a one-size-fits-all approach. This undermines early detection & quality care, exacerbating the systemic inefficiencies of the healthcare system.
What is your solution?
Intelligent General Practitioner (iGP) model, developed by CMED Health, a transformative digital healthcare ecosystem designed to revolutionize preventive and primary care. The model integrates AI diagnostic tools, IoT-enabled screening devices, and a multilingual, mobile-first interface operated by trained Community Health Workers (CHWs). These CHWs, empowered with AI-powered decision support, provide periodic health education, screening, risk assessments, and referrals through Point-of-Care Devices (POCDs) at the doorstep to the community. A generative AI co-pilot assists in delivering personalized health education and awareness. The model ensures continuity of care via structured referral systems linking primary care with secondary and tertiary facilities, supported by a 24/7 telemedicine-enabled GP center. It creates a digital health account for every citizen, enabling personalized clinical management, early detection of high-burden diseases like hypertension and diabetes, and timely intervention. By integrating AI, IoT, and data analytics, iGP enhances diagnostic accuracy, strengthens referral quality, and reduces out-of-pocket expenses while easing systemic pressures on higher-level facilities. The model aims to scale and improve healthcare access, service delivery, and outcomes, advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with accountability, transparency, and data-driven planning.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Our initiative serves individuals & families, particularly in low-income & underserved communities, who face systemic barriers accessing timely & quality healthcare. These populations—both in rural & urban areas experience delayed diagnoses, poor health outcomes & catastrophic healthcare costs due to fragmented systems, weak referral networks, limited access to health records. iGP model addresses these challenges by delivering doorstep preventive & primary healthcare through tailored, context-specific interventions. Our initiative breaks the vicious cycle of poverty & poor health, which is often fueled by inadequate access to care. By ensuring accessible, affordable & quality healthcare, iGP empowers communities to live healthier, productive lives while alleviating economic burden of disease. In rural settings, it bridges gaps in healthcare for marginalized populations, while in urban areas, it addresses the growing burden of NCDs among working-age adults—reducing productivity loss, premature deaths, and economic vulnerability. The model enhances health outcomes through improved data availability, increased coverage of quality maternal healthcare, reduced NCD mortality & strengthened facility readiness. Through digital inclusion for both providers & beneficiaries, it enables timely diagnosis, appropriate referrals & management. Through this solution, we aim to raise the UHC index from 51% to 70%, reduce maternal and infant mortality, diabetes and hypertension by 10% annually, and cut catastrophic healthcare costs by 50% by 2030.
