What specific problem are you solving?
Across sub‑Saharan Africa and South Asia, more than 250 million school‑age children learn in classrooms without consistent electricity or internet access. In Uganda alone, UNESCO reports that fewer than 30 percent of primary schools have reliable power and only 40 percent can connect via mobile networks; rural India shows similar gaps, with about 35 percent basic connectivity. Without digital tools, schools rely on paper registers and manual grading, delaying insights into student progress by months. As a result, roughly 70 percent of ten‑year‑olds in low‑ and middle‑income countries cannot read a simple text fluently, and some districts endure teacher‑to‑student ratios exceeding 1 to 60. Only about 60 percent of instructors meet minimum professional standards, while in‑service training rarely reaches remote classrooms. Parents remain uninformed about attendance and performance, and policymakers lack real‑time data to target interventions—contributing to dropout rates above 20 percent in under‑resourced areas. Globally, nearly half a billion learners are affected by these systemic barriers, perpetuating cycles of educational exclusion and limiting socio‑economic mobility. By addressing unreliable infrastructure, administrative bottlenecks, and fragmented communication channels, our solution targets this entrenched learning crisis at scale.
What is your solution?
Nexus is a comprehensive “Connected Education Ecosystem” that builds on the strengths of traditional learning management systems while addressing their limitations to solve our education challenges. This ecosystem is a unified digital framework with three main goals: serving as a platform for data collection and inference, facilitating tailored instruction through adaptive learning modules, and enabling seamless resource sharing among students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Delivered via a chatbot interface on WhatsApp, Nexus integrates interactive tutoring, automated administrative support, and real-time professional development, all within one platform. The chatbot offers personalized support through customized quizzes, remedial content, and instant tutoring, while it also assists teachers with lesson planning, attendance tracking, and data-driven feedback. Regular updates empower parents to engage actively in their children’s education. Additionally, Nexus streamlines data analytics to provide actionable insights to local administrators, enabling evidence-based interventions. Its modular architecture supports region-specific adaptations, ensuring that content and tools align with local educational practices and needs. By leveraging widely available mobile technology, Nexus overcomes infrastructural and digital literacy challenges in resource-constrained settings, ensuring integration, scalability, and a sustained, measurable impact.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
Centered around schools in resource-limited regions, Nexus serves students, teachers, parents, and government administrators by providing integrated support through a Connected Education Ecosystem. Students aged 6 to 18 receive continuous personalized learning support, immediate access to tailored supplementary resources, and real-time tracking of academic performance. This interactive AI-powered tutoring has been validated through empirical studies to strengthen fundamental skills such as literacy and numeracy, where high student-teacher ratios restrict individual attention. Teachers benefit from automated administrative tasks, allowing them more time for instruction. They have access to on-demand curriculum guidance, lesson planning assistance, and instant performance data. Moreover, regular professional development training in digital tools and instructional strategies has led to measurable improvements in teaching quality. Parents receive consistent updates on attendance and academic progress and participate in structured training sessions designed to enhance their capacity to support learning at home, an approach that data shows increases student engagement and achievement. Meanwhile, administrators gain reliable, real-time data to inform policy decisions and resource allocation. By combining these functions, Nexus transforms isolated schools into connected, data-informed learning communities that foster sustainable educational improvement.
