What specific problem are you solving?
Poverty is a global, multidimensional social challenge that affects aspects beyond the economic, such as education, health, community participation, and personal development. Carvajal Foundation addresses it through a comprehensive household care approach, strengthening capacities to overcome barriers that hinder self-development.
According to the World Bank, around 700 million people live in extreme poverty, and 3.5 billion remain poor under broader standards. In Colombia, although there have been economic improvements, challenges persist: in 2023, monetary poverty stood at 33%, and extreme poverty at 11.4%, rising to 19.8% in rural areas. The national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) was 12.1%, highlighting territorial disparities.
The National Development Plan 2022–2026 mentions low social mobility, limited job opportunities, and a historical debt in fundamental rights. In response, since 2023, Carvajal Foundation has evolved its institutional strategy with a social innovation approach focused on households. Although the MPI in Colombia does not include personal development (human development), the Foundation considers it essential, incorporating socio-emotional skills. A strategic path was designed starting from household realities, enhancing aspirations with proprietary methodologies. A service portfolio built on decades of experience is offered to strengthen the social ecosystem both nationally and internationally.
What is your solution?
The “My Home Moves Forward” program by Carvajal Foundation aims to help prioritized households overcome poverty through a Comprehensive Care Pathway:
Phase 1: A territorial diagnosis is carried out, including data analysis, stakeholder mapping, field visits, and selection of micro-territories.
Phase 2: Connections are made with the community, the program is introduced along with a poverty stratification workshop, and a targeting form is applied to select participating households.
Phase 3: Households build their Poverty Elimination Traffic Light, identify strengths and challenges, prioritize goals, develop family plans, and sign shared responsibility agreements, integrating additional data to personalize the support.
Phase 4: Specific solutions are designed based on the challenges of each household and micro-territory, prototyped, and adjusted on the ground.
Phase 5: Solutions are implemented with ongoing support and contextual evaluation.
Phase 6: Validated solutions are assessed by the MEL team and prepared for scaling through a portfolio of social technologies.
This pathway ensures personalized, sustainable, and effective interventions that improve living conditions and strengthen households’ capacity to progress on their journey out of poverty.

Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
We have prioritized our actions in Valle del Cauca and northern Cauca, specifically in Cali (Aguablanca District), Buenaventura, Ginebra, Candelaria, and Guachené in northern Cauca. Our geographic coverage strategy is based on micro-territories (targeted households and neighborhoods).
In these areas, we work with 910 households, totaling approximately 4,095 individuals. Our household prioritization process targets those in multidimensional poverty who experience deprivation in areas such as: education, income, organization and participation, personal development, health and well-being, and housing and infrastructure.
