What specific problem are you solving?
In Zambia and across many underserved regions globally, thousands of schools lack reliable access to the internet, up-to-date learning materials, and digital literacy resources. This digital divide limits students’ ability to thrive in a 21st-century world, exacerbates inequality, and hinders teachers’ ability to deliver engaging, modern education. Many schools still rely on outdated textbooks and struggle with high pupil-to-teacher ratios. In Lusaka and rural areas, access to quality educational content is further obstructed by poor infrastructure and unaffordable internet services. According to UNICEF, nearly 60% of African children do not have access to basic digital education tools. Our solution addresses these barriers by offering an offline-first, low-cost digital learning model that is both scalable and inclusive.
What is your solution?
eNgoma Digital School Labs transforms underused school computer labs into vibrant, connected digital learning hubs using Kolibri—an offline educational platform. We preload local curriculum, interactive global content, and life skills modules, including financial literacy, onto low-cost servers. Our solution uses existing mobile towers and point-to-point Starlink internet to create a hybrid connectivity model, ensuring schools can access online content where possible while remaining fully functional offline. We provide hardware setup, volunteer training, and community engagement to build local ownership and sustainability. By leveraging open-source technology and donated equipment, our model remains affordable, adaptable, and impactful for even the most remote schools.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
We serve students, teachers, and communities in under-resourced Zambian schools—particularly in peri-urban and rural areas. These groups are often left out of the digital revolution due to poor infrastructure, limited internet, and a lack of relevant content. Our solution empowers students with interactive, curriculum-aligned lessons and global knowledge; equips teachers with teaching tools and training; and opens labs to the wider community for continued education. By reducing dependency on live internet and offering cost-effective connectivity, we bridge the gap between traditional education and digital literacy, building inclusive, future-ready communities.
