What specific problem are you solving?
In Sub-Saharan Africa, millions of learners, particularly those in rural and marginalized communities, face significant barriers to quality education. High costs of textbooks, inadequate infrastructure, and limited internet connectivity hinder access to essential learning materials. Learners with disabilities are disproportionately affected; for instance, 80% of visually impaired students are illiterate, and Deaf children often lack resources in their native sign languages. Teachers also frequently lack digital literacy and access to affordable, inclusive materials aligned with national curricula. These challenges contribute to low literacy rates and hinder socio-economic development in the region.
What is your solution?
LoHo Learning is an affordable, inclusive digital education platform designed to deliver curriculum-aligned content both online and offline to learners across Africa. It offers over 3,000 resources, including eBooks, STEM simulations, interactive lessons, and videos, with features like Kenya Sign Language interpretation and screen-reader compatibility to support Deaf and visually impaired students. The platform operates on low-cost tablets and portable servers, ensuring accessibility in areas with limited internet connectivity. Additionally, LoHo provides training modules for teachers and parents to enhance digital literacy and support inclusive education practices. By integrating these elements, LoHo aims to bridge educational gaps and promote equitable learning opportunities for all students.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
LoHo Learning serves children in underserved, rural, and marginalized communities across Sub-Saharan Africa, including learners with disabilities such as Deaf and visually impaired students. These learners face systemic barriers to quality education due to high textbook costs, lack of internet access, and a severe shortage of accessible learning resources. Many attend overcrowded schools where teachers have limited digital literacy and few tools to personalize learning.
LoHo’s platform is designed to bridge these gaps. Learners benefit from curriculum-aligned content available online and offline, including interactive eBooks, STEM simulations, and Kenya Sign Language (KSL) videos that support Deaf learners. Visually impaired learners access Braille-ready and screen-reader-compatible formats.
Teachers receive training and tools to improve lesson delivery and track learner progress, while parents—especially those with Deaf children—can learn basic KSL to better support home learning.
By improving access to inclusive, affordable, and interactive content, LoHo enhances learner engagement, boosts literacy and numeracy, and promotes equitable learning outcomes. With 345 schools already onboarded, including 60 special needs institutions, the platform is demonstrating real impact, helping build a more inclusive education system and brighter futures for all learners, regardless of their background or ability.
