What specific problem are you solving?
• Identification: Most schools lack systems for early identification for student behavioral, social, and emotional issues, and staff don’t have the capacity to intervene before behavioral incidents escalate. • Early Intervention & Prevention: Staff spend 90% of their time supporting IEP students and managing behavioral crises—who make up just 5%–15% of the student population. The remaining students often receive no support until a behavioral incident occurs. Why Now? • Widening Inequities: The student-to-counselor ratio far exceeds national recommendations, and traditional mental health support models are expensive, stigmatized, or culturally disconnected. Support is often reactively triggered after major behavioral incidents that lead to suspensions or expulsions. This disproportionately harms low-income and BIPOC students, who frequently go unsupported until crisis. Black students are 9x more likely to be suspended than their peers. • Financial Impact: Unaddressed student mental health needs lead to more behavioral incidents, suspensions, and absenteeism—directly impacting school funding by lowering Rate of Participation (ROP). With ongoing DOE budget cuts, schools urgently need cost-effective, scalable solutions that don’t rely on hiring additional support staff.
