What specific problem are you solving?
Access to high-quality civic education remains a critical gap in Colombia, particularly for children in underserved communities affected by poverty, conflict, and migration. Despite efforts to build a culture of peace, many children lack understanding of their rights and responsibilities, hindering their active participation in society.
The situation is exacerbated by the presence of nearly 2.8 million Venezuelan migrants in Colombia as of July 2024, with over 190,000 irregular migrants in transit, 21% of whom are minors. This influx strains the education system, leaving many migrant children without access to consistent civic education.
Simultaneously, armed groups have expanded their territorial control, with the Clan del Golfo increasing its presence by 55% and ELN by 23% compared to 2022. These groups often operate in areas with limited state presence, further disrupting educational opportunities.
The lack of flexible, context-sensitive civic education resources accessible to both formal and non-formal educators hampers efforts to scale solutions. Without addressing these challenges, a generation of children risks being excluded from becoming informed, engaged citizens capable of contributing to peaceful and inclusive societies.
