Abram Abanil

Director IV, ICT Service, Department of Education

Mr. Abram Abanil has over 25 years of experience in the education sector focusing on software development, education technology, planning, research, and data analysis. He started as a researcher in a University before moving to the Department of Education where he took part in developing the first national systems for collecting school data and learner data. He left the Department in 2012 and had several consulting projects with organizations such as GIZ, UNICEF, World Bank, and Asia Foundation.

In 2017, he returned to the Department of Education as Director for the ICT Service. Under his leadership, 951,696 ICT equipment were delivered to the schools, software applications such as the DepEd Commons, Learning Management System, and Mobile Apps were deployed, DepEd TV and Radio were established and aired in 11 TV/cable stations, virtual INSET were conducted for 514,659 teachers in just one month, online tutoring sessions were established, and DepEd email accounts were issued to 21 million learners.

DepEd received the Policy Maker EdTech Champions award in the mEducation Alliance 10th Anniversary held on Feb 2021 and the Grand Prize for Outstanding Thematic Presentation from Signis Asia TV held on May 2021 for its DepEd TV project. The DepEd Commons was the top 4th trending searches in the Philippines for 2020.
