Anna Tunkel

SVP, Head of Strategic Initiatives & Global Partnerships, APCO Worldwide

Anna Tunkel is the head of global strategic initiatives & partnerships at APCO Worldwide. She develops and leads diverse partnerships between leading global corporations and organizations that generate multiplier societal impact, including the United Nations, World Bank, World Economic Forum, NGOs, technology disruptors and many others.

Ms. Tunkel has nearly two decades of experience at the nexus of business strategy, public affairs and communications, advising innovative global organizations from China’s largest ICT company to sovereign wealth funds, family offices, Fortune 100 companies and young technology disruptors. The projects she led range from harnessing AI for city resilience & disaster preparedness, to helping launch one of world’s largest new blockchain initiatives to raising global awareness around urban water loss and new technologies addressing it, helping organizations like Malala Fund expand their global footprint and impact and more. In her previous positions, Ms. Tunkel was a director in APCO’s Shanghai office, advising global companies seeking expansion in China. She also worked in Washington DC on a variety of business development and special projects for the firm, spanning APCO’s offices across North America, Europe and Asia. Prior to joining APCO, she worked for the Division of External Relations at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva and Physicians for Human Rights.

Ms. Tunkel has a Master of Science with academic distinction from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and is a graduate of Singularity University executive program on exponential innovation. She was named one of the 99 most influential foreign policy leaders by the Diplomatic Courier, and is an alumna of the Bucerius Global Governance Leadership program. She is a member of the Global Leadership Council for Seeds of Peace, B-20 Taskforce on Integrity and Special Taskforce on Women Empowerment and World Economic Forum Future Agenda Council on Transparency and Anti-Corruption. Fluent in four languages, she is a frequent writer and speaker on public-private partnerships, technology & innovation and inclusive globalization.
