Omar Razzaz

Minister of Education, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Dr. Omar Razzaz is the Minister of Education in Jordan.  Previously, he served as the Chairman of Board of Directors of Jordan Ahli Bank; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF); Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oasis 500 Venture Capital Fund; and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD). He also headed the International Commission for Evaluating Privatization in Jordan (2013-2014), and the Jordan National Employment Strategy team in (2011-2012). He was the Director General of Jordan’s Social Security Corporation (2006-2010). Prior to his return to Jordan, he worked for the World Bank, Washington D.C. (1997- 2002) in various posts and regions, and as Country Manager of the World Bank’s Lebanon Office (2002-2006). Dr. Razzaz was Assistant Professor at MIT in the International Development and Regional Planning (IDRP) Program (1995-1997). He holds a PhD from Harvard University in Planning with a minor in Economics, a post-Doctorate from the Harvard Law School, and a Master’s degree from MIT. He was a member of several boards of private and not for profit organizations including the Jordan National Center for Human Rights, Jordan University for Science and Technology, and the Economic and Social Council. He has a number of publications in refereed journals. His work experience covers Europe, Central Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
