Peter Sands is a Senior Fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School. He is Chair of the International Commission on a Global Health Risk Framework For The Future under the auspices of the US National Academy of Medicine. He is also the Lead Non-Executive Director of the Department of Health in the UK. Peter is a board member/adviser to several start-ups in the fintech and meditech arenas, such as Noble Markets (US) and Revere (UK).
Peter was Group CEO of Standard Chartered PLC from November 2006 to June 2015. He joined as Group Finance Director in May 2002. Prior to this, Peter was Director at worldwide consultants McKinsey & Co. Before joining McKinsey, Peter worked for the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Peter graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University with a First Class degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He also received a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was a Harkness Fellow. Peter, who grew up in Asia, is married to author and bookshop owner, Betsy Tobin and has four children.
