Dr Tony Worby

Dr Tony Worby joined Minderoo Foundation as the Chief Executive Officer of Flourishing Oceans in July 2020. He is based in Perth, Western Australia.


Prior to this appointment, Dr Worby was Director of Oceans and Atmosphere at Australia’s national research agency, CSIRO, where he led a team of 600+ scientists and technical staff. Before that he was CEO of the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre (2014-11), Deputy Chief Marine at CSIRO (2011-14), and Program Leader for the Australian Antarctic Division’s Ice, Oceans, Atmosphere and Climate research program (2009-11).

Dr Worby has extensive experience working in the Antarctic and marine environments. He has visited Antarctica 17 times and participated in more than a dozen multi-disciplinary marine science programs to the Antarctic sea ice. He has served as Chair of Australia’s National Marine Science Committee, the Australian Academy of Science’s National Committee on Antarctic Research, and the Earth Systems and Climate Change Committee for Australia’s National Environmental Science Program.

Dr Worby was a Fulbright Scholar at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Centre in Washington DC in 2000 and has studied at both London and Wharton Business Schools.
