Why are you applying for The Elevate Prize?

8 years ago we started an enterprise to find a scalable and low cost solution for empowering the youth in vulnerable communities of Venezuela and to solve  4 systemic problems of the educational system that replicates across the Latin American region.

After years of iterations In 2018 we built our first pilot of a low cost modular smart classroom the Ecolab. Wich have lowered school dropout rate by 50% improved student grades by 30% and created a sustainable culture that has empowered the environmental awareness of the youth but also transformed the whole community of Toas Island Venezuela. Today we are building our second pilot in Colombia and have received more than 8 replications request in 3 countries.

The elevate prize can leverage the scalability of this solution, by mentoring the social business model, overcome implementation barriers in covid scenario, hire needed human resources expand the network of strategic relationships with potential partners (institutional, private, corporate funding). and to optimize our research and development of Ecolab model which involves biotecture, software, hardware and a pedagogic model based on ludic educational STEAM projects.  All of this deliverables integrated into one social franchise package ready to deploy  in the region.

Tell us about YOU:

My name is Luis Cambar i am wayuu indigenous from Venezuela and Founder of Ecoluciones. An NGO which focus on developing solutions for empowering the youth, education and environment in vulnerable communities. I studied business administration, strategic management and project management i am social innovation counselor for local universities.

It all began in 2013 after living abroad various years. When i came back home i saw the state negligence and decided we had to take civil action. We the people need to come up with the solutions ourselves. So i gathered a group of friends from university post grade and started working on it.

in 2014 we decided we needed to create a structural solution that solve these problems from the root that could be scalable and applied in other countries of the region were the same problems repeated systemically.

After 4 years of research and development and multiple iterations that involved 10 communities and 10.000 students. We finally built our pilot solution the Ecolab smart sustainable classroom. it exceeded all our expectations. We won 7 international awards and got 8 replications request in 3 countries 

 Our mission to work for the development of communities, through the creation of new educational tools that generate community empowerment, effective solutions and environmental awareness

Our Vision is to become a regional model, capable of generating disruptive positive changes in the culture of our society

Ecolab was born as a scalable and replicable model to address 4 problems; desertion student, digital illiteracy, lack of quality in educational infrastructure and sanitation of solid waste in vulnerable communities. 

We develop Eco3D a system of Low-cost augmented reality 3d printing that democratizes access to this technology using soda bottles. For young people to make advanced educational tools at low cost from plastic waste Includes a project-based pedagogical model playful. For the development of skills and abilities necessary in Industry 4.0 As 3D modeling, programming, mechatronics, robotics, video game design, teaching paleo biology with mixed reality to train teachers and young people in STEAM areas. 

A constructive system to build classrooms  from recycled materials, Rammed earth (rammed earth) and a mixture of Pet cement for ecological blocks. Thus in 2018, the first pilot Ecolab was established that serves as a playful education space and benefits more than 4,000 young people in Venezuela at the moment we are replicating our second Ecolab unit in the rural municipality of Santo Tomas, Colombia. Recyling more than 1 million pet bottles into clasrooms and social housing solutions

The Ecolab can be coupled as a modular upgrade in any school in the Latam region, to democratize this knowledge and generate ecological awareness en masse. We equip this classroom with our Eco 3D system a ludic educational app based on augmented reality and a pedagogical model
