Healthx Pakistan is addressing the problem of reactive healthcare management which is associated with burdening healthcare systems and high costs. Pakistan faces the challenge of inadequate access to healthcare with only 33% of the population have access to a healthcare facility within a 5km radius. Additionally, only 45% of the population can afford high quality healthcare. The health expenditure per capita is $158 in 2020, which has increased from $72 in 2001 which is growing rapidly over the past decade and is continuing at an upward trend. Almost 80% of this expenditure is out of pocket and 35% or above can be avoided via implementation of preventative care models.

Healthx is actively addressing these challenges through its innovative Phygital approach, which combines physical and digital elements to bridge the gap between traditional healthcare and digital solutions. By engaging in frequent on-ground activities and interactions with clients, Healthx aims to build trust and gradually shift perceptions toward digital healthcare.

Healthx's Phygital hybrid approach combines digital and physical touchpoints throughout the patient life cycle (At Office, At Hospital, while traveling). The “At Hospital” model refers to Healthx’s Roaming Doctor Program coordinates the care in the hospital and serves as a liaison between the patient and physician. The “At Office” model refers to the Healthx’s Virtual Clinics that can be placed at corporate offices, pharmacies, schools, malls, nursing homes, hotels, etc. The “When Travelling” model refers to the Integrated Mobile Application remotely, you can connect with healthcare professionals via telemedicine through voice, video, or online. This ensures that patients receive comprehensive care utilizing the benefits of technology and telemedicine. Healthx's core objective is to enhance the health outcomes of its members by focusing on evidence-based preventative medicine. Telemedicine plays a crucial role in achieving this objective by enabling regular check-ins, remote monitoring, and early intervention when health issues arise, even in areas with limited physical healthcare infrastructure.

Why are you applying to Solve?

I have always believed that life is a quest to find balance between means and meaning. If you have only one, that is, either means (money, power, influence) or meaning (a larger purpose in life), that may not be enough. Both of these can be attained, however, if you do one thing: solve complex problems for a large number of people. The more complex the problem and the larger the number of people you solve it for, the better it is.

While financial stability is crucial, it is the pursuit of purpose and contribution to society that truly brings fulfillment. Pakistan (and the developing world in general) presents an opportunity for me to address societal and developmental challenges, aligning with my belief in finding this balance. MIT Solve aligns with this vision of mine by providing a platform for global innovators to address pressing challenges leveraging technology, therefore offering a structured path to finding this balance between means and meaning.

As the founder and CEO of Healthx, a digital healthcare organization, I am applying to MIT Solve to partner directly with a network of tech-based social innovators and drive real impact. MIT Solve offers the opportunity to connect with leading minds in both the tech and social impact spaces, providing the necessary support and resources for our growth.

At Healthx, our mission goes beyond providing healthcare services; we aim to fundamentally transform the industry. Our goal is to realign the reactive sickcare industry into a proactive, true healthcare industry incentivized to keep people healthy. Through digital innovation and an iron will to strike the balance between means and meaning, we are working towards reducing the ever-rising disease burdens and healthcare costs in Pakistan. By leveraging technology and fostering a culture of preventive care, we envision a future where healthcare is not just about treating illnesses but about empowering individuals to lead healthier lives. Our participation in MIT Solve is a step towards realizing this vision, as we seek to collaborate with like-minded innovators and drive meaningful change in healthcare outcomes globally.
