Dry recycling of plastic packaging

Pitch us on your solution

How can we reduce the impact of plastic packaging on the waters of our planet ?

We believe we need to recycle more and find ways to use less water in this process.

For example, only in Brazil 800 million plastic lubricating oil packages, containing 1.5 million liters of residual oil are discarded annually. Since only 1 liter of oil can contaminate 1 million liters of water.

With this in mind, we have developed a technological solution that performs the decontamination and recycling of these packages in an ecological way: without the use of water and without waste generation

More than that, all residual oil is recovered and recycled, eliminating the environmental risk.

As if that were not enough, the process generates a recycled plastic of excellent quality that allows the preparation of new oil plastic packages with a cost up to 10% lower, thus creating a true circular economy.

Film your elevator pitch

What is the problem you are solving?

Only in Brazil 800 million plastic lubricating oil packages, containing 1.5 million liters of residual oil are discarded annually. Since only 1 liter of oil can contaminate 1 million liters of water, apart from affecting the quality of air, soil, water supply systems and human health

The conventional plastic recycling process has the washing stage with water for the material cleaning. However, for many contaminated plastics, with high environmental contamination power, this solution is not applicable because it does not remove the contaminant efficiently from the plastic, in addition to using large amounts of water, generating effluents and several types of wastes, with high environmental risk. These packaging when sent to conventional recycling, enhances this problem because the washing with water generates from 30 to 50 thousand liters of contaminated water (environmental risk), and up to 28% of oily wastes. In addition, as this washing does not remove the oil, the plastic loses quality, application and economic value, reducing the value throughout the recycling chain, mainly for the waste pickers and cooperatives (social).

Who are you serving?

Population that is tired of plastic packaging contamination of rivers and soils, affecting the quality of air, water supply systems and human health. And governments that need to do something to solve this problem through clean technologies.

On the one hand we have governments and the big multinationals manufacturers of lubricating oil, cooperatives and environmental companies that collect this material and need to make the correct destination.

On the other hand, we have the Plastic Transformation Industries that buy and use plastic to make new packaging, benefiting from the superior quality we can achieve in decontamination and lower costs. The big multinationals manufacturers will also benefit from lower cost and 100% recycled raw material packaging, reducing its impact on the environment.

What is your solution?

We have developed a technological solution that performs the decontamination and recycling of these lubricating packages and other types in an ecological way: without the use of water and without waste generation

More than that, all residual oil is recovered and recycled, eliminating the environmental risk.

As if that were not enough, the process generates a recycled plastic of excellent quality that allows the preparation of new oil plastic packages with a cost up to 10% lower, thus creating a true circular economy.

We use an ecological degreaser that we developed, which due to the developed processes of the technology, can be separated from the contaminant, maintaining the characteristics of both. We recovered the degreaser for new use and the contaminant for sale. This technology was developed over 3 years, and it is an automated production line, with high capacity, composed of equipment and 9 processes.

New technology

Describe what makes your solution innovative.

Because it generates environmental, economic and social value in the plastic recycling chain. It does not use water, it does not generate waste, it does not generate contaminated effluent (today 80% of the effluents are discharged into the environment without any type of treatment), it recovers all the contaminating oil that turns into byproduct, efficient recycling that allows the plastic valorization the plastic that returns to be packaging and because of this valuation, we can pay a higher value to the waste pickers.

Own Innovative Technology; no use of water in the decontamination, no wastes or effluents generated, ground plastic fully clean (higher quality), contaminant recovery that becomes a byproduct (zero environmental risk), Hazardous Waste transformed into Non-Hazardous Waste (report NBR 10.004), Rating, recovery and traceability of all inputs (plastic, oil, label), the plastic becomes packaging again, and benefits with Social-Environmental impact are generated.

It's a green patent. We obtained in 3 years, because it was framed as a green patent for being a clean technology and had its analysis priority.

Describe the core technology that your solution utilizes.

Our technological solution that performs the decontamination and recycling of oil packages in an ecological way: without the use of water and without waste generation

More than that, all residual oil is recovered and recycled , becoming a by-product, eliminating the environmental risk, and complying with Conama Resolution 362/05 brazilian law.

This technology was developed over 3 years, and it is an automated production line, with high capacity, composed of equipment and 9 processes which separates all the inputs: plastic, label and oil for sale and the ecological degreaser that returns clean to decontaminate more packaging.

In five years 1,000,000,000 people including other countries starting with United states, canada, countries of Europe.

What are your goals within the next year and within the next five years?

For the next year our goal is to increase the volume that will increase the socio-environmental benefits generated. For the next five years our goal is to have in all places of our world, units of this technological solution, with high productive capacity, installed in containers, occupying little space and allowing to be close to the large volumes of packaging discarted, facilitating all logistics and scalability. Our proposal is to Leave to the the world a legacy through this new recycling concept and inspire others by showing that it is possible to develop new clean, unique and disruptive technologies, capable of transforming productive processes for better: more efficient, ecological, sustainable, with zero environmental risk, the plastic becomes packaging again, and benefits with positive Social-Environmental impact are generated. We intend to apply for all plastic packaging. This solution is recognized through the most relevant prizes won of institutions of great relevance, such as PNUD, UN, BID, FEMSA Foundation, Amcham, Fecomercio, Green Nation, World Water Forum.

What are the barriers that currently exist for you to accomplish your goals for the next year and for the next five years?

For the next year barrier to investment capacity and international visibility. For the 5 years companies may not want to reduce the impact of their packaging on the environment but the trend is that this will change as the population, the world and consumers can not stand it any longer. 10 million tonnes of plastic packaging reaches the oceans every year worldwide, according to a study conducted by the WWF. Plastic pollution affects the quality of air, soil and water supply systems. The burning or incineration of the plastic can release into the atmosphere toxic gases, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, extremely harmful to human health. Disposal outdoors also pollutes aquifers, water bodies and reservoirs, causing increased respiratory problems, heart disease and damage to the nervous system of exposed people. 800 million plastic bottles of lubricating oil are disposed every year in Brazil. And that only the drained oil contained in one bottle can contaminate up to 2,000 liters of water, apart from affecting the quality of air, soil, water supply systems and human health. Conventional recycling, apart from consuming thousands of liters of water, generates hazardous effluent and high amount of waste.

How are you planning to overcome these barriers?

Continue operating at our production plant and generating socio-environmental impact benefits. Continue to win national and international awards, recognitions and acceleration programs, which will help attract resources and partnerships with large institutions and companies.

Your business model & funding

What is your business model?

On the one hand we have the big multinationals manufacturers of lubricating oil anf governments, that through cooperatives and environmental companies collect this material and need to make the correct destination. They collect the packages at the gas stations and car workshops, drain the excess oil and organize the bottles in bales that are sold and sent to our factory. So we currently need an initial working capital to buy these packages.

On the other hand, we have the Plastic Transformation Industries that buy from us and use plastic to make new packaging, benefiting from the superior quality we can achieve in decontamination and lower costs.

What is your path to financial sustainability?

From the sale of plastic resin with high quality for the manufacture of new packaging, and the sale of the oil for recycling. The plastic is of excellent quality because it is homogeneous, 1 plastic type only of lubricants and we remove all the contaminants like oil, label and aluminum. All our current production and production increase is sold to the largest recycler in the country, for a higher price in the market, thus evidencing the plastic valuation. We provide service to Instituto Jogue Limpo (reverse logistics program of the largest lubricants manufacturers of the country - Shell, Ipiranga, Petrobras).
