Help the Haitian diaspora annual 3.5 billion dollars remittances become more impactful in solving Haiti urgent problem
What specific problem are you solving?
Many youths by age 15 are now joining gangs and developing bad habits in many underserved communities in Haiti. The most vulnerable age group is 16 to 20 which represent 5% of the population. One of the main reasons behind these poor choices is the very limited employment alternatives and available opportunities for these 550K youths and their parents.
In weekly reflection circle with the seyouth about why kids join gang; they explained the situation through a Haitian proverb "Sak vid pa kanpe" translated as empty sack can’t stand on its own. This was crucial to understand that the real problem is employment opportunity.
With the political instability in the country, international investers have no desire to risk their money in Haiti. However, there is a flow of cash coming through the haitian diaspora remittances that could change the situation if better organized to provide stronger impact creating alternative jobs in ecosystems preservations.
What is your solution?
To block this spiral of gang proliferation, Haitians in the Diaspora are solicited to contribute to a Job Impact Fund managed by a digital application name Job Power .
Job Power app will allow youth in Haiti to apply for available community task in agriculture, environmental protection and civic action that one Haitian in the diaspora will choose to recruit and pay.
The app will be supported by a network of small franchises spread all over Haiti to assist at-risk youth to acquire appropriate job readiness and agroecology vocational skills as apprenticeship opportunity within their communities.
A committee of entrepreneur experts assists the local small business owners to run the businesses sustainably and continue to create jobs that have environmental and social impact with an hourly compensation rate of one dollar.
Who does your solution serve, and in what ways will the solution impact their lives?
This new opportunity of these ecosystems part time jobs will change the pathway for 550K youths age 16 to 20. Through this youth employment services, these youths have now alternative options for choosing between reliable opportunities and others that can lead to trouble. Several other programs have trained youth in skills that are not adapted to the Haiti context. This promising sector is an easy way to empower marginalized youth to contribute to aspects of sustainability related to the environment, the economy and the culture of the country.
How are you and your team well-positioned to deliver this solution?
Since the 2010 earthquake SAKALA has developed several apprenticeship programs in partnership with world renown organizations, such as International Labor Organization, UNICEF, CONCERN WORLDWIDE, the US Embassy, Moringa for Love, CRS and more.
SAKALA has an extensive collaboration history with community organizations all around Haiti. SAKALA has been established as a youth group program that develops partnership with other groups in many other field of intervention.
Through the long history of apprenticeship program, SAKALA works with a network of agronomists and agriculture technicians suitable for follow-up support to the businesses and apprenticese.
SAKALA through this program will be the largest online training platform for agroecology techniques that could become part of school curriculum.

Why are you applying to Solve?
The software application is what can make it easy for the Haitian diaspora to monitor the additional impact of their remittance. This is the technical support that will help our initiative make a huge difference. Getting in touch with an app developper will insure trust and transparency among the Haitian diaspora and the youths applying for the tasks in Haiti
